Sunday, September 30th - Optional Field Trip Details

This field trip will be hosted by the University of Wyoming and lead by representatives from Apache and ConocoPhillips.

“Outcrop Analogs for Clastic Shallow Marine and Fluvial Reservoirs: Upper Cretaceous Mesaverde Group, Hanna Basin”
This one day field course is designed to introduce participants to a variety of clastic reservoir bodies in coastal to nearshore marine settings at seismic through core scale. We will examine stacking patterns, architecture, lithofacies, and ichnology of fluvial point bars and sandy delta fronts of the Upper Cretaceous Mesaverde Group north of Sinclair, Wyoming in order to evaluate the relative importance of each in constructing stratigraphic frameworks and reservoir models upon which to base hydrocarbon exploration, appraisal, and development programs. Modern analogs will help calibrate three-dimensional depositional models of these two-dimensional outcrops.
